The ball for these two events only started rolling on Friday 5th Feb. We need your help -- TO PASS THE INFORMATION ON HOWEVER AND WHEREVER YOU CAN. Please use all available means - email, phone, leaflets, posters, press work etc.. Some basic leaflets and posters are being made, but it will probably be quicker to create your own. If we all mobilise well, we might be able to mobilise several thousand for Saturday's demo. Text of leaflet follows. Yours in peace, Stephen Hancock (Peace News) (The slogan "Protect the People of Iraq" can be adapted - eg "Show your heart for the people of Iraq" (Sat 14th is Valentine's Day), but the two basic demands - No Bombing and End Economic Sanctions - must remain.) begins "Newspaper reports indicate that the bombing of Iraq by US and British forces will begin on 17th February - PROTECT THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ - NO BOMBING - END ECONOMIC SANCTIONS - Saturday 14th February, noon - Encircle the Ministry of "Defence", Whitehall, London - Bring banners, and hearts to attach to the MoD building. - There will be a symbolic die-in at one o'clock for those willing to risk arrest. - Contact David Polden on 0171 607 2302 (Monday 16th February -- "Shut Down Northwood" -- early morning blockade of Northwood, the Joint Rapid Deployment Force HQ in north west London.) In the event of any bombing, people are asked to gather in their town centres at 6.00pm with candles. All events strictly nonviolent. Saturday demonstration sponsored by: Nonviolent Resistance Network, Milan Rai (ARROW), Emily Johns (artist) Stephen Hancock (Peace News), Dave Durham (National Peace Council), Jorgen Johansen (War Resisters International), Joanne Sheehan (WRI), Ellen Elster (WRI); other sponsors invited. Donations (payable to "NVRN") appreciated: NVRN, 162 Holloway Road, London N7 8DQ" ends To add your name (personal or organisational) to list of sponsors -- either just put it on the information you're distributing, and/or contact: David Polden on 0171 607 2302; email stephen@gn.apc.org (similarly, if you want to help out with the organising of the two events - we need all the hands we can get) Stephen Hancock (stephen@gn.apc.org) 178 Campbell Road Oxford OX4 3NR England Tel: +44 1865 770833 (Peace News: tel +44 171 278 3344; fax 278 0444) "In an unjust world the only place for a just person is in bed" -- This message has come via soc-green.
