Dear List, Against human lives, this may of course seems trivial, never the less, I find it disturbing. Call me naiive. Yesterday's London Evening Standard reports: 'A nine foot statue of Saddam Hussein has been brought back to Britain by Royal Marines and given a new home at their base in Somerset. The statue from Basra now resides at the 42 Commando Base in Norton Fitzwarren, near Taunton.' This is theft. It is Iraq's property and in time, Iraq's history. Can we assume it is now OK for Iraqis (or any other nationality) to lug off the statues of Churchill, Bomber Harris (I've been wanting to blow up that one for years) King George, Montgomery or indeed, the Statue of Liberty. I for one am writing to Defence Secretary Geoffrey Hoon and asking for an explanation. Best, felicity a. _______________________________________________ Sent via the discussion list of the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq.
