Felicity Arbuthnot The apprehension of Dr Huda Ammash raises many serious questions relating to the US squatters who have taken over the 'house' which is Iraq. Dr Ammash is an internationally highly respected environmental biologist with whom I have spoken on a number of platforms. Dr Ammash is also a world class expert on the health effects of depleted uranium in Iraq and the cancers and birth defects linked to its use by the UK and US in the first Gulf war in 1991. There is an Orwellian feel to the fact that looting and burning of all hospital records was allowed by US and UK troops - thus destroying all evidence of the deadly cancers, birth defects and other effects of DU. Now Dr Ammash has been disappeared. Strange coincidence. Iraq is turning into a vast Guantanamo Bay. If civilised society still exists, it should be demanding of governments that independent legal experts, Amnesty International and the Red Cross are allowed immediate access to these disappeared. We must not have Iraqi mothers, like Chile's mothers, holding placards with photographs of their missing loves - at the hands of the United States of America and its British bag carrier. _______________________________________________ Sent via the discussion list of the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq.
