[casi] Re: Hungary will say no - hopefully

Dear Colin,

Half a million peacekeepers is a worrying number, indeed. And Hungary
is requested to contribute 300 people - pretty strong force, isn't it?

Ironically, the proposed peacekeeping might admittedly cost some
9 to 18 million dollars - an amount which reminds me of the USD
15 million awarded to Hungary a few weeks ago as part of the US war
budget. Our government went out of their way to explain away any
connection of the money with the war and their complicity in it, saying
it was aid as usual, and it would go towards a manifestly peaceful purpose,
namely, the reconstruction of a hospital (the 'Military Hospital', to be sure).

It is clear that they only want to use Hungary for the purpose of
legitimizing the war. No wonder that on Hungarian radio and television
they keep arguing that Iraq needs our help right now, but never mention
the obligations of invaders according to the Geneva Conventions.

Greetings,
Attila Boros
Hungary
