[casi] Galloway inconsistencies

Hi again,

It occurs to me, as Habeus Corpus is suspended by some of the media in
respect of George Galloway and he is accused of being guilty - and hung,
drawn and quartered by media - modern civilisation and laws have, it seems,
been suspened by the US/UK 'coalition' (the other little 'coalised' bits not
worthy of mention.)

The US now demands to raid Iraq's bank accounts, control oil revenues, seeks
the regime's family's money in accounts (no Court here, just grab the cash -
no lawyer, nothing.) No, this is not support for the regime but a query as
to whether an illegal, invading force has the right to anything in a country
in which there is no structure, little diplomatic representation abroad
thanks to US pressure and a truly pathetic UN Secretary General who bleats
rather than stands up in the name of 'we the people'.

Iraq has undergone a good, old fashioned siege for thirteen years. Looks
like now they are undergoing a good old fashioned rape, pillage, looting by
a good old fashioned American posse.

I assume this is a precedent? On a domestic context, I can accuse the owner
of my local shop/off licence/post office of threatening my life, take over
his premises, comandeer his bank accounts (and his other considerable
properties) and live happily ever after? Once I have organised that, I can
take over London and make my own rules as I go along? Is this how it works
now? Whose for Prague, Madrid, Dublin, New York - and oh yes Washington?

Whilst the accusations about Galloway are shifty and shoddy, there are wider
questions in this unique situation that is an Iraq whose entire social
structure is destroyed by the barbarians that got through the gates and has
no officials to defend or protect what is rightly its own.

Further, all have a right to legal representation. Who is representing those
taken in to custody? What is happening to them? Whilst they are accussed of
disappearing people (and it certainly happened) will our representatives do
the same to them? In which case, we are no better.

Are legal minds addressing this? Looking at the death toll in Texan jails,
and the horrors of Guantanamo Bay, it's pretty scary when George the Second
is unaccountable in an Iraq without even telephones.

best, felicity a.
