[ Presenting plain-text part of multi-format email ] Letter to Security Council Members: Oxford, England Your Excellency, I understand that US is proposing to introduce a resolution to the Security Council which will place money received from the sale of Iraqi oil under US control. I must urge you as strongly as possible to reject such a resolution or to act in any way that might be seen to reward or give legality to the activities of the belligerent powers, US/UK. It is imperative that the reconstruction of Iraq comes under UN control and that reconstruction contracts can only be awarded by UN or by recognised Iraqi governments. I understand that US has already seized control of substantial Iraqi funds which were held in UBS in USA. UN should insist that these funds are returned to the control of the Iraqi people. The Security Council rightly resisted the demands, threats and blackmails of US/UK in refusing to authorise the war on Iraq. If UN is to continue to be meaningful, it must resist all efforts by the shameful belligerent parties to approve retroactively this illegal war. Yours faithfully, Christopher Leadbeater _______________________________________________ Sent via the discussion list of the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq.
