Re: [casi] [jubileeiraq] update

Dear Justin & List,

I have followed Justin's postings, trying to figure
out the purpose behind the posts and the site
established "jubileeiraq".
It seems to me the whole idea is to find ways to
forgive Iraq's debts... The illegal aggressions are
not referred to... The illegal flight-exclusion zones
are not mentioned... The illegal new aggression is not
an issue... And the sanctions are not a cause.. The
only eveil is Saddam Hussein. Isn't that an
oversimplification of a major issue??
Is Iraq's problem only money and debts?
How about the great developments and projects executed
by Saddams' regime since 1979? How about the great
leaps in education, scientific develpments, health
care, etc...? Was ALL the money spent on wars and
"building palaces"??

The site advertises itself as "Campaign to liberate
Iraq from Saddam's debts." It starts with the
following statement:
"Should the Iraqi people have to pay the bill for the
$bns Saddam borrowed to fight wars, build palaces and
fund his secret police? Should the Iraqi people -
impoverished through war, oppression and sanction -
pay Kuwait and other rich countries $bns in
reparations for Saddam’s 6 month occupation of Kuwait?
No one to going to pay the Iraqis for their much
greater losses during the 25 years he occupied Iraq."

I would like to ask Justin the following:

Should Iraqis pay for the destruction of their country
in 1991 by "allied" forces in violation of the Geneva
Conventions, when civilian targets should not be
attacked?

Should Iraqis pay for destruction in Kuwait caused by
allied bombings and attacks?

Should Iraqis pay compensation for nationals of third
countries whom the Kuwaitis kicked out after the
"liberation" in 1991 without reason?

Should Iraqis pay for the destruction of Kuwaiti oil
wells which the US intentionally set on fire and
accused Iraq?

I think that unless issues are tackled objectively,
JubileeIraq will remain a site dedicated to expressing
only one side of an issue, and in a very distorted
way.

Hassan
