[ Presenting plain-text part of multi-format email ] to AS-ILAS: the decent american believed his/her government's assertion that iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, that saddam was willing to use them, and that only a regime change in that country could eliminate that threat. the well-being of the iraqi people and its democratization was, as you well know a canard. it was a corrupt addendum, an argument made by the british and american governments when their initial postulates were proven false and unfounded. but the wmd argument allowed the buildup of extraordinary military might in the region.because bush and company could not pull back that large force without costly political embarrassment, the wellbeing of the iraqi people became a useful tool. i doubt very much that the salvation and well being of the assyrians and kurds, the sunnis and shia would have been of such import and concern to the american public, in economic pain, that it would 'will' to support an american salvage operation. now you opt to send to casi political pamphlets that obviously reflect a degree of gratitude to the americans and british...they even tell their audience to listen to cnn, voice of america, etc. they contain some good words about equality regardless of ethnicity, but at the same time are clearly religious in audience targeting. i am revulsed by such pamphlets....you may have a right to post them...and i to object to their shallow and not so veiled confirmation of their religious origin....i wonder if the iraqis will, in light of what you sent, resort to the same old, same old, same old corrupt and zealous religious nightmare that clouds and cripples the reason of not only so many in the middleeast including israel, but also bush and colleagues.( is nuri es said still available to become prime minister? perhaps he can be revived from his crypt if not already celebrating the second coming of the brits and americans .) i urge you to eschew pamphleteering. such documents are somewhere beyond reason and perhaps national dignity. talk about freedom from saddam, but also talk about freedom from hunger and from foreign domination. iraqi dignity and humanism deserve that. tony _______________________________________________ Sent via the discussion list of the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq.
