The Yahoo lead photo today, showing U.S. Navy F-18 planes in formation as they head for refueling, is captioned thusly: U.S. Declares Air Supremacy Over Iraq Not to interfere with triumph of the greatest and costliest war machine on earth (in a country that does not have commendable schooling or universal health coverage or adequate benefits for veterans), but for the sake of accuracy, it might be noted that the "enemy" never had one single plane lift into the sky from the start of the invasion. Such "air supremacy" might not surprise or impress some. I, for one, will forego a silent moment of military pride in favor of a silent moment of prayer for the truly brave, those young men who died terrible deaths in the streets of their country, trying their best, with inadequate weapons from the start, to protect their homeland from foreign invaders. Lisa ===== "our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency. always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it." -- general douglas macarthur, 1957 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
