[casi] Undressing Richard Perle

The dangerous Richard Perle is taken to task:

[1] "Right takes centre stage" by Brian Whitaker in The Guardian (Mar 4, 2003)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Print/0,3858,4618087,00.html

[2] "LUNCH WITH THE CHAIRMAN: Why was Richard Perle meeting with Adnan
Khashoggi?", by SEYMOUR M. HERSH in The New Yorker (Mar. 17, 2003)
http://www.newyorker.com/printable/?fact/030317fa_fact

In the latter, Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Hersh notes Perle "has set up a
company that may gain from a war." Perle appeared on CNN "Late Edition"
yesterday to rebut Hersh's story, calling Hersh a "terrorist" and
"irresponsible" (Hersh defamation lawyers, and political humorists everywhere,
please note <http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0303/09/le.00.html>).

Of course, this is the same Richard Perle who:

>> Claimed "convincing" evidence linked Sep. 11 hijacker Mohammed Atta to an
Iraqi agent;

>> Flacked a book claiming Saddam was behind the 1993 Trade Center bombing, and
espoused links between Saddam and the USS Cole and Khobar Towers attacks;

>> Cited the early lack of suspects in the anthrax mailings as reason for war;

>> Invited a former LaRouchian extremist to speak to Defense advisors on
conquering the Middle East (memorably, with "Egypt the prize");

>> Claimed Saddam could be overthrown with no troops (1998), or perhaps with
only 40,000 troops (2002);

>> ... and then sniffed at the concerns of our military, saying these are
"political judgment(s) that these guys aren't competent to make".

For Richard Perle, foreign policy is something the hired help does to brown
people. Perle's deceit has done more damage to the U.S. than Aldrich Ames and
Robert Hanssen, and he should join them.
