Anti war activists on trial Monday

9 anti war actvists will appear at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court, London
Monday 24th February charged with highway obstruction after taking part in
Warzone Whitehall, a mass die in against sanctions and the proposed attack
on Iraq.

The activists, who are all expected to plead not guilty, were among 35
arrested at the action on December 2nd, attended by about 300 people,
blocking Whitehall for several hours.

The trial is due to start at 10am
The activists on trial are Josephine Donagh (Oxford), Sylvia Boyes
(Keighley), Olivia Agate (Yorkshire), Josh
Robinson (Cambridge), Nick Gill (Cambridge), Lucy Lucy (London), Genny Bove
(Wrexham), Liz Yates (Maidstone), David Polden (London) and Richard Rippon
(Cambridge).

David Polden, 61, of anti war group ARROW, said "Warzone Whitehall was a
taste of what the British Government can expect if they launch a full scale
war on Iraq. Over 5000 people have signed a pledge (1) to take part in or
support nonviolent direct action in the event of an escalation in the US/UK
war on Iraq. If we are to stop this war, we need to strengthen our dissent
into nonviolent direct action."

70 activists were arrested at Northwood, Britain's military HQ on January
19th at Disrupot the Masters of War, a blockade of the base organised by
Voices, ARROW and the D10 Group.

Dozens of activists were arrested at an anti war sitdown in Picadilly Circus
following the massive anti war march on Saturday 15 February. Most were
subsequently de arrested, either on the pavement or at the police station
but at least 4 have been charged and bailed to appear at Bow St Magistrates
at 10.30 am Tuesday February 25th.
