Iraq Peace Team member to join Northwood anti war actions Jan 18-19

Matt Barr, who later this month is expected to travel to Iraq with the Iraq
Peace Team, will join actor Nabil Shaban and hundreds of activists from
around the country this weekend at Northwood, Britain's military HQ.

A pantomime horse ridden by George Bush will also join activists. Mr Bush
will brandish a whip which he will use to spur on the horse by flagellating
its rump, decorated with a Tony Blair mask. Most of the British public
regard Mr Blair as "the back end of George Bush's pantomime horse" according
to BBC Newsnight's Jeremy Paxman.

The weekend of protest starts with a public meeting and sanctions breaking
auction at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, Holborn on Friday 17 January
7.30pm.

On Saturday activists will assemble at the main gate of Northwood at 12pm,
for Operation Internal Look (OIL), a mass breach of the Official Secrets
Act.

On Sunday, after gathering at Northwood tube at 11 am, activists will march
up to the base and blockade the main gates.

Among those planning on risking arrest are disabled actor Nabil Shaban, who
starred in City of Joy, Derek Jarman's "Wittgenstein" and the BBC TV sci fi
series Dr Who

Richard Byrne, press spokesperson for Voices said, "This weekend we are
putting Britain's military HQ in the public glare. Most people don't know
that in this sleepy London suburb Britain's military plan and scheme war 24
hours a day. Staff at Northwood were in Qatar in December for Operation
Internal Look (OIL), practising for an invasion of Iraq. This is the heart
of Britain's war machine, this is where the orders will be given to kill
Iraqis, nearly 10 million of whom are under the age of 16."
