Re: [casi] Churchill, gas and the Kurds

If anyone saw Sunday night's fantastic Bremner, Bird and Fortune hour-long
satire on the war on Iraq - which was as informative as it was hilarious -
they will have seen the camera zoom onto documents in the Public Records
Office concerning gassing the Kurds of what is now northern Iraq. One
document from the early twenties indicated that if poison gas attacks did
not take place it was only because an effective means of delivery of the
noxious agent yet to be devised. So WC (which stands for Winston Churchill,
water closet, and war criminal) and his hammer, Arthur Harris, who headed up
the RAF bombers who - as BBF pointed out - were the first people in history
to systematically and deliberately bomb civilians - had to make do with
conventional explosives and incendiaries.
