[ Presenting plain-text part of multi-format email ] Dear Friends, Greetings & Happy New Year! As some of you already know, SOA Watch NE founder, Linda Panetta, will be leaving for a ten day delegation to Iraq on Sunday, January 5. Linda and Johanna Berrigan of the House of Grace Catholic Worker will be traveling with Bishop Thomas Gumbleton of Detroit, MI and other delegates from Voices in the Wilderness, and Peaceful Tomorrows (an organization of friends and relatives of the victims of 9/11 who seek a nonviolent response to the events of that day). The delegation will visit schools, hospitals and other sites in Iraq that have been harmfully effected by the U.S./U.N. sanctions. They will also be carrying a message to the Iraqi people they meet that there are many Americans trying to change U.S. policy toward their country, trying to stop the death and destruction that is being inflicted upon them. Fr. John McNamee and St. Malachy’s Church has invited Linda and Johanna to the 11:00 mass on January 5 to pray over them as they embark on their delegation. We would like to extend this invitation to all of you to join St. Malachy’s in sending off our regional participants. St. Malachy’s Church is on the corner of 11th and Master in North Philadelphia (2 blocks north of Girard; 3 blocks east of Broad: From 676 or vine street, go north on Broad towards the Temple U. campus and turn right on Girard to 11th - turn left on 11th -- the church is 2 blocks up on the right side). We hope you can join us. We also appeal to you to call / visit / send letters to members of Congress and express your opposition to further US bombing in Iraq. The delegation will be returning on January 15th. There's a possibility that Linda will be uploading photos on the www.soawne.org website from Baghdad. If not, be sure and check out the website after the 15th!
