Pointed out the obvious over 200 years ago:

"The pattern of taxes being raised to pay for waging war is actually a pattern of wars being waged 
to justify higher taxes. A citizenry in debt is much more easily controlled."

All war throughout history has been driven by, in a word, speculators.
The United States couldn't liberate the Kuwaiti monarchy fast enough.  Why couldn't they do the 
same for South Africa?
