Exaggerated threat

Evelyn Leopold’s report, "Britain and US lobby waverers on UN Iraq
resolution" (25 October) indicates that the United States and United Kingdom
are adding to the claims being made which exaggerate the nature of the threat
posed by Saddam Hussein and distort his links with terrorism. The US media
has widely expressed derision at some of the claims made by President George
Bush and his cohorts.

In the New York Times, William Safire says countries like Britain will be
rewarded out of the Iraq "booty", while countries like France and Russia will
be punished. The Prime Minister, Tony Blair, now seems completely out of
touch with anything that could be described as an ethical foreign policy.
