I'm going to work on analysing the public opinion poll results for the UK and the US sometime next week I hope. For now, just a note that the Daily Mirror/ICM poll today shows British opposition to participation in a war on Iraq appears to jump from the 50s to 71 per cent opposition. Not absolutely straightforward because the polls have shown differences between responses to 'do you support British participation' and 'do you support there being a war at all'. The picture is also a little mixed because if there were a UN resolution 'authorising' a war, 53 per cent would support and only 35 per cent oppose the war. Note: this is a real random sample poll, conducted 27 to 29 August by a reputable company, not the readers' phone-in-type 'poll' used by the Mirror earlier in the year. Interestingly 44 per cent of folks think military action taken so far in the war on terrorism has been 'about right'. Only 17 per cent said 'too strong', 24 per cent said 'too weak.'
