Hello all, A very good analysis of one of the reasons of the war that has continued since 1990. This analysis, like others before it, left out a major reason for attacking Iraq (and afterwards Iran and Syria), and concentrated only on oil. There is no doubt that oil is a major factor in the US imperialist plans. But it is my belief, and that of the majority of Arabs, that THE MAJOR reason is Israel and its protection. Iraq was a friend of the US in the 1980's, because it aided US (and Zionist) policies to neutralize the two major powers in the area, Iran and Iraq, and pit them against each other in a bitter war that depleted their resources and left them militarily and economically weak. The US is not interested in right or wrong, human rights or who kills whom, as long as the government in this country or that does like the US wants. Iraq became dangerous (in Zionist eyes) when it started developing its own weapons program that would upset the balance of power in the Middle East. That is the red line that can not be crossed. Only Israel can develop and own WMDs, of all kinds, and only Israel can do that without sanctions and without objections. And because US foreign policy decisions on the Middle East are made in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem (not Washington), then no Arab state should be allowed to develop or own WMDs. That is the Morality of Immorality…. The US will not allow Israel's military superiority in the area to be threatened, and is prepared to commit its army and endanger its security and its men in defense of Israel. It is always forgotten that Iraq (and perhaps other countries in the area) only started their weapons programs as a deterrent to Israeli Mass destruction weapons programs. Even Khidr Hamza, the new-found US source on Iraq's WMDs, admits that Iraq's nuclear program was only enhanced after the 1981 Israeli attack on its nuclear reactor (seemingly with French, Jordanian and Saudi collaboration…). As long as Israel has WMDs (with technology supplied by the same hypocritical Western powers so worried about Iraq's WMDs), then it can threaten its neighbors, attack them and carry out its genocidal policies.. It has done that for over 50 years, and will continue as long as there is no power that can stop it. Thus, when a country may pose a threat to this superiority, it WILL BE STOPPED. Furthermore, Iraq will continuously be sanctioned and attacked, as an example to all other Arab states that may harbor similar ideas of defying Zionist policies. The US wants to destroy Iraq and install a government "friendly" to the US (democracy is a joke….), which would also be prepared to end any opposition to peace with Israel (according to Zionist conditions). That is the price for lifting sanctions. Otherwise, the US has no problem getting its oil from wherever it wants. It will soon control Central Asia's oil resources too, so even Saudi's importance to the US will decrease.. I am convinced that should Saddam Hussein tomorrow decide to recognize Israel and establish diplomatic relations with it, you will be surprised at how fast the sanctions will be lifted, and how soon the US will declare that Iraq is beautifully moving towards democracy. Perhaps SH will be called to the US on an official visit, and all of the EU will suddenly change its policy… Perhaps we will even see some US historians and researchers suddenly unearthing documents that will prove that Kuwait is after all part of Iraq..
