There are currently two open Early Day Motions concerning military action against Iraq listed on the UK Hansard web-site. EDM 927, expressing 'deep unease ... at the prospect that Her Majesty's Government might support United States military action against Iraq' currently has 161 signatories. Less well-know is EDM 1238, which 'calls on the Prime Minister to make a full statement to the House outlining [the existing] preparations for an attack on Iraq; and reiterates that any offensive military action against Iraq can only be morally justified if it carries a new and specific mandate from the United Nations Security Council.' The latter currently has 35 signatories. If you've got an MP, and you haven't already done so, it'd be worth contacting them and asking them to sign. Full details, including a list of signatories, are listed below. Best wishes, Gabriel voices uk ************************************* EDM 1238 IRAQ AND THE PRIME MINISTER 07.05.02 That this House notes with concern reports of Pentagon sources briefing that the United States is planning a massive air-led military campaign against Iraq of up to 1,000 bombing strikes a day, followed by a ground invasion involving at least one United Kingdom army brigade, and that plants producing so-called smart bombs are currently working overtime in preparation for a military campaign in the autumn or next spring as reported in the Herald on 29th April; further notes the remarks of the Prime Minister in the House on 10th April in relation to Iraq that 'no decisions on action have been taken'; believes that these positions are mutually inconsistent; calls on the Prime Minister to make a full statement to the House outlining preparations for an attack on Iraq; and reiterates that any offensive military action against Iraq can only be morally justified if it carries a new and specific mandate from the United Nations Security Council.
