Benon Sevan, "grave concern at the unprecedented surge in the volumeof holds"

>From UN News Centre at:
http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=2561&Cr=iraq&Cr1=oil

"The Executive Director of the United Nations Iraq Programme, Benon Sevan
[..] sent a letter to the Chairman of the Security Council committee
monitoring the sanctions against Iraq expressing "grave concern at the
unprecedented surge in the volume of holds placed on contracts by the
committee." The total volume now stands at nearly $5 billion, including
1,265 contracts worth $4.28 billion now on hold."

If anyone finds a copy of the letter becomes available, please do
circulate it. It's not yet on the OIP site.

For those of you who don't check the What's New section of the CASI
website on a daily basis (!!), you may be interested in the data on holds
for each phase of oil for food since Phase IV up to 18 December 2001 at:

http://www.cam.ac.uk/societies/casi/info/undocs/status011218.htm

If anyone cares to number-crunch or produce informative graphs using this
data, pls drop CASI a line.

Best wishes
Glen Rangwala
