'Terrorism' has become a widely used word in the West over the past
several decades. In conventional analyses, this is explained as a result
of increased terrorist activity, which, in turn, is based in part on the
ability of terrorists to get their message across by means of violent acts
in the 'open' West, in part on Soviet sponsorship and troublemaking.
