New Hans von Sponeck quote

Dear all

As previously announced, the National Coordinating Meeting of the
British anti-sanctions movement has issued a call for national and
international action against the economic sanctions on Iraq during the
period 20 - 30 November 2001. Please start planning now!

30 November marks the end of the current, tenth, Phase of the UN
oil-for-food humanitarian programme. At the end of Phase X, British
and US diplomats are likely to push for the adoption of their so-called
"smart sanctions" resolution, which has been condemned by Hans von
Sponeck and Denis Halliday, among others.

Hans von Sponeck has granted permission for the following statement
to be used publicly:

"Media work and awareness efforts in general during these next few
months before the end of phase X of the oil for food programme are
immensely important. We must increase the pressure as much as
possible, particularly on the US and UK Governments, to make them
realise that 'enough is enough', and that beyond the end of November
it cannot be 'suffering as usual', with or without so-called 'smartness'."

Cheers

Mil
