Revealing para in today's Guardian ('Jordan first to lose when 'smart' sanctions hit Iraq' 26th June.) Re compensation for neighbouring countries loss at 'smart' sanctions: 'Most likely option would be to make Iraq compensate Jordan, Syria, Turkey and possibly Iran for their loss of trade from UN's oil for food programme.' So already suggestions that sanctions may have to stay 'for a hundred years' to pay one compensation scheme, now it pays anew. Further the 'tightened borders' means the US gets what it has stated aims since the 1920's virtual control of the Middle East - and its oil. (The UN being the US by any other name as it currently stands.) Perhaps I'm over cynical. Perhaps not! best, felicity a. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a discussion list run by the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq For removal from list, email soc-casi-discuss-request@lists.cam.ac.uk Full details of CASI's various lists can be found on the CASI website: http://www.casi.org.uk
