International Week of Action against Sanctions on Iraq 20 - 26 November 2000 *Please circulate this email* Dear friends 1) Info on the Week of Action 2) Registering as a co-sponsor 1) Please could you help publicise the fact that the week 20-26 November has been declared an International Week of Action against Sanctions on Iraq. 20 November is Universal Children's Day. 26 November is the day the UN Security Council is due to receive their latest 'humanitarian report' on Iraq. This International Week of Action is co-sponsored by Denis Halliday and Hans von Sponeck, former UN Humanitarian Coordinators for Iraq who resigned in protest against the economic sanctions. Groups sponsoring the Week of Action so far include: A Bridge to Baghdad [Italy] Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq (CASI) [UK] Chiltern Peace & Justice Group [UK] Iraq Action Coalition [USA] Voices in the Wilderness [USA] Voices in the Wilderness [UK] 2) If your group is interested in sponsoring the Week of Action, the three criteria for co-sponsorship are as follows: i) Co-sponsors need to be in favour of the immediate and unconditional lifting of economic sanctions against Iraq. ii) They need to commit to organising an event/releasing a statement to mark the International Week of Action against Sanctions on Iraq. (An event might be leafleting, holding a public meeting, a vigil or a demonstration.) iii) They need to commit to listing this event/statement with some central website (yet to be devised). If you do wish to register as a co-sponsor, please reply to me at milanrai@trinityroad.free-online.co.uk Best wishes Milan Rai Joint Coordinator Voices in the Wilderness UK National Office 16B Cherwell St, Oxford OX4 1BG -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a discussion list run by the Campaign Against Sanctions on Iraq For removal from list, email soc-casi-discuss-request@lists.cam.ac.uk Full details of CASI's various lists can be found on the CASI website: http://www.casi.org.uk
