1) People needed to staff London vigil 2) Invitation to Voices London public meeting 7 August 3) Invitation to London daytime event to launch fast, National Petition, and celebrity letter 1) People needed to staff vigil Voices in the Wilderness UK is organising a three-day fast against sanctions opposite Downing Street in London - while members of Voices UK and Voices US fast outside the UN headquarters in Baghdad. START 7pm, Friday 6 August - Opposite Downing St, Whitehall END 7pm, Monday 9 August- Opposite Downing St, Whitehall If you are able, individually or as a group, to staff the vigil for a period over the weekend, we would be grateful if you could commit yourself in advance by phoning DAVID on 0171 607 2302. You do NOT have to fast to be on the vigil. People willing to do overnights and early mornings especially appreciated. 2) Invitation to Voices public meeting 7 August Voices delegates will be showing slides and reporting on the latest situation on Saturday 7 August: 7pm, Main Building, LSE, Houghton Street, London WC1. Nearest tube Holborn. Reports from Voices delegates in Iraq will be relayed to the meeting. 3) Invitation to daytime event to launch fast, National Petition, and celebrity letter Voices is holding a photo-opportunity to mark the ninth anniversary of the start of the sanctions, at noon, Friday 6th August, outside Downing Street. We will read out an open letter to Tony Blair condemning the sanctions signed by Benjamin Zephaniah, Emma Thompson, Ralph Steadman, and others. We will also have a 'sign-in' of a giant version of the new National Petition Against Sanctions. Anyone who does not already have plans for 6 August is very welcome to come to London for this event.
