The 'National Catholic Reporter' recently devoted a cover story to the effect of sanctions in Iraq: http://www.natcath.com/public/052199a.htm. This lengthy piece ("Iraq: for the children, sanctions are deadlier than the bombs") was written by Tom Roberts, the Reporter's Managing Editor. An ill-informed response to this article (by Charles Davis) has now been eloquently rebutted by Simon Harak, S.J., at http://www.nonviolence.org/vitw/pages/72.htm. The articles by Roberts and Harak are both well-researched, and provide a suitable backdrop to the Pope's eagerly awaited visit to Iraq. Thank you, NCR, for your attention.
