Dear Sir/Madam:
Ian Black ('The impasse of Iraq', 1 July) writes 'the UN
says Saddam has stockpiled medicines that his people
desperately need: what is the point?'. According to the
UN, the point is that the vast bulk of medicines are
distributed to the Iraqi people, and the stockpiling is not
due to Saddam's evilness (though he is vile), but to a host
of problems caused by sanctions such as 'lack of transport
for moving the supplies'.
Yours faithfully,
Eric Herring
