(See Explanatory Notes for help.)
Match method: Specify whether documents must contain all or any of the words you enter, or whether you are specifying a full Boolean expression such as Clinton AND (Blair OR Chirac) AND NOT Hussein. Please note that you cannot search for phrases - do not try to use quotation marks for this purpose.
Fuzzy/Exact matching: If you specify fuzzy matching, then the search will include documents which match synonyms of your search terms and words with the same base but different endings (plurals, verb forms etc). You'll see those extra words at the top of the search results page.
Format: Specifying Short will just produce the titles of matched messages; specifying Long will include an excerpt.
Sort by: specifies the order of the search results. Score is roughly equivalent to how many times your search words appear in the document, date is the date of the message, and title is by alphabetical order of the message 'subject' line.
Date range: You can restrict your search to messages from a given date range (where 'date' means the date the message was distributed to the discussion list). If you leave this line blank, no date restrictions will be used. If you wish, you can just specify a year without a month or day, or a year and a month with no day. For example, to include all messages in the years 2000 and 2001, you can simply select 2000 in the 'from' field and 2001 in the 'until' field, and leave the day and month spaces blank.
