[ This message has been sent to you via the CASI-analysis mailing list ] [ Presenting plain-text part of multi-format email ] *^*^*^*^* PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY *^*^*^*^* Dear Friends, There is an unreported humanitarian crisis unfolding today in Iraq. Please take a moment to read the following email to Medea Benjamin from Dahr Jamail. (Dahr has spent a total of 6 months in occupied Iraq, and has now returned to continue reporting on the occupation. One of only a few independent reporters in Iraq, Dahr has appeared on Democracy Now! and disseminates his dispatches through the site www.DahrJamailIraq.com .) We, as San Diegans, have a special opportunity to help Falluja's refugees directly. Our own Fernando Suarez del Solar is, together with Medea, organizing the relief effort which Dahr Jamail writes about in the following email. The relief effort is part of the Families for Peace in Iraq campaign in which family members who have lost a loved one in Iraq, or in the 9/11 attacks, will travel to the Jordanian border with Iraq to bring in the New Year with a special appeal for solidarity and peace. (more information on how you can help follows the email) Fecha: Mon, 22 Nov 2004 11:06:55 -0800 Asunto: Re: Need Supplies Now!!! De: Medea Benjamin A: Dahr Jamail , Aryeh CC: Harb Mukhtar , chris michael , gael murphy , jodie evans , Fernando Suarez YES, yes. Rather than sending our materials right away, wouldn't it be better if we sent $5,000 right away to someone in Amman to buy the goods? Medea Medea and Aryeh, The supplies cannot wait. I have just come from a refugee camp in Baghdad of Fallujans. They need medicine for their camp and the other camps now. Can you ship what you have immediately to Jordan? I can get you contact information and a person there to send it to who can bring it in immediately. This cannot wait. The suffering is beyond description. It's worse than anything you've read or anything I've written so far. I'm going to more camps tomorrow, and Fallujah. Please respond as soon as possible. We have an organization set up of 5 doctors who can distribute the medicines and supplies. Also-I have arranged for 4 doctors who are ready to leave Iraq to come to Amman to meet you. Can you cover their expenses and accommodations to and from and inside Amman? One of them is a pharmacology, one an ophthalmologist, and the others are general doctors. Thank you and please respond ASAP. This is a humanitarian crisis that cannot wait until the first of January. Solidarity, Dahr ps If you can't send the medicines right now can you send money so we can buy medicines here to spread them to the refugee camps? You can send it through Bank of Baghdad to me and we can then get the money to the doctors. Take Action: Help Send Humanitarian Supplies to Iraq Dear friend, When the US bombed a hospital in Falluja and seized another, leveled virtually the entire city, killed hundreds of desperate civilians, refused to let humanitarian aid workers into the city, and left an estimated 50,000 civilians without water, electricity and food, we knew we had to do something - fast -because Falluja is just one terrifying example of the escalating devastation in Iraq. We can't let this face of devastation be the only face that the Iraqi people, and the world community, see from the American people. We must show that there are kind, compassionate Americans who are appalled by this violence and want to help - not kill - the Iraqi people. So we have put together a delegation of parents who lost loved ones in Iraq and on 9/11, as well as health care workers, to take a shipment of humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq. This delegation will take desperately needed medical supplies to the Iraqi/Jordanian border, where we will meet with Iraqi humanitarian aid organizations that will take the supplies to Falluja and other places in need. We plan to leave for Jordan on December 27 and usher in the New Year with this gesture of solidarity BUT we need your help in raising $20,000 in the next two weeks to make this happen. ** These supplies will only get to those in need if each of us does our part ** Here's what you can do NOW: 1. DONATE NOW securely online and ask your friends, family and co-workers to MATCH your donation. Please visit: http://codepink.kintera.org/helpiraqis 2. HOST a house party to raise money for humanitarian supplies. List your house party at http://www.unitedforpeace.org to make sure others in your community can attend. 3.
